One of the drawbacks of owning a long leasehold flat, or maisonette, is that it is a diminishing asset. The fewer the number of years that remain on the lease, the less valuable it becomes. Because of this, the law gives the leaseholder (Tenant) a right to extend their lease once they have owned it for two years.

This is a complex area of Law and as Chartered Surveyors we have experience in these matters and can help guide you through the process whether you are a Landlord or Tenant (Lessor or Lessee).

Under certain circumstances a tenants of flats may collectively have the right to purchase the Freehold of the property - again we can assist both Landlord and Tenants in these circumstances.
